On the afternoon of 17, October, 2012, Prof. Lin Zhengqiu, the famous scholar of Hangzhou Normal University (HNU), was invited to give a lecture titled “The Historical Development of Hangzhou and Its Tourism” for students of HNU. Director Zhang Weiliang at Institute for Urban Studies presided over the lecture. Secretary Yan Baiyan and the deputy secretary Zhang Huasong of the School of Humanities, the members of the “City Star” association well as over 80 other in-school teachers and students attended the lecture.
    Mr. Lin described the historical development of Hangzhou and its tourism from the aspects of its total population and revenue, transportation and ecological environment, etc., through which he demonstrated how the local culture facilitated the local economy. What’s more, he presented the great changes the city Hangzhou took from the Liangzhu Culture Period in old ancient times until now standing as the capital of Zhejiang province. In discussion, the participants made active interactions with Prof. Lin on the related questions and benefited a lot form his vivid explanation and rigid academic style.
