Dr. Lincoln Toby of the Center for Urban History at the University of Leicester was invited to give a series of lectures on the program of urban history theory and world city for the undergraduates and postgraduates at the Hangzhou Normal University, which would last one month.

On September 3, 2012, He began his first lecture around the topic “how do the modern colonists see their colonial regions and people” and introduced the Orientalism theory of Sa Yide. Through a series of vivid pictures, he also presented the changing images of Chinese people in the western people’ eyes from the Opium War to the late Anti-Japanese War and revealed the embodied traditional and modern factors in it.
