Director Zhang Weiliang attended the Conference in Taiwan

From April 27 to May 3, 2012, Professor Zhang Weiliang, Director of the Institute for Urban Studies of HNU, was invited to take part in “the 5th Conference on Urbanology Studies” in Taiwan, which was held jointly by Open University Of Kaohsiung and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation, Nathional Sun Yat-Sen University at Taiwan, National Cheng Kung University, National University of Kaohsiung, National Kaohsiung Normal University, National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology, National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences, National Kaohsiung University Of Hospitality And Tourism, I-Shou University, Chang Jung Christian University, and Shu-Te University.
    The theme of this conference was “On the experience of urbanization in the Globalization Era: from a Comparative Perspective”. More than 60 scholars from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan attended the conference, with over 30 thesis papers submitted. 
The issues discussed covered city culture, the culture creation industry, the learning city, city management, city case comparison, etc. which fully reflected the positive concerns on urban studies by scholars in the globalization era. Around his paper "Cultural Myths: Globalization and City Life – a Case Study of Dongping Lane Community in Hangzhou”, Professor Zhang Weiliang also made a special report and received favorable comments from other participants.
On April 30, through panel discussions around the theme of the forum on the city development and urban studies, the participants confirmed their beliefs on the important significance and promising prospect of urban studies.
