I. Urbanology Theory
Urbanology theory mainly studies systematically the appearance、development and change regularity of a city, including the characteristics、power and process of urbanization, development trend of international cities, the approach、aim and model of China urbanization, the research of urban morphology, ecological environment and social structure, etc. The basic disciplines involved in urbanology theory are urban geography, urban ecology, urban economics and urban sociology.
The specific study orientations are as follows: (1) Marxist Theory of Urban; (2) Urban Sociology; (3) Urban Geography; (4) Urban Ecology.
II. Urban Public Policy
Urban public policy focuses on study of various social problems in the process of urbanization abroad and at home. Through the empirical study, we can evaluate urban public policy systematically, put forward thinking and countermeasure for resolving sorts of practical problems in the developement of a city, and provide consult and reference for decision-making and management staff of a government as well as research workers of urban planning and sociology. Urban public policy covers politics, sociology, science of management and behavioristic psychology, etc.
The specific study orientations includ (1) problem of city immigrants—peasant workers, (2) urban traffic problem, (3) urban housing problem, (4) urban public health problem and (5) urban culture industry problem.
III. City History And Culture
Cities are distillate of human civilization. The trace of each age can be found in city construction. City history and culture is not only the record but also the mental memory of every city. The key point of city history and culture is to study history of cities abroad and at home, investigate the development and change law of cities in a comparative viewpoint and learn experience and draw lessons from history. At the same, attaching great importance to exploring the historical cultural connotation of each city is helpful to inherit, protect and develop the connotation, so as to serve the city construction of modern China.
The specific study orientations contain (1) the research on the history of world cities, (2) the research on the history of international great cities, (3) the research on the history of Chinese cities, (4) the research on the history of Chinese modern cities, (5) the study of protecting urban historical culture and heritage and (6) a comparative study of city history abroad and at home.
